Ann, Michaela, Chris, and I are currently in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Here, we are working with Tides Family Services and Brother Michael. This organization works with children who need special schooling and have been turned away from all the other schools. Many of these children have truancy issues as well as violence problems.
These kids are amazing, and it is unfortunate that they get the short end of the stick. All of them just have a desire to be heard and supported and this is what we are providing for them while serving here.
Today we got to meet most, if not all, of the staff at Tides Family Services as well as got to go and shadow some of the behaviorists and clinical staff as they met with their clients. Chris was able to bond with a boy through a game of basketball. Michaela and I were able to connect with a girl through similar life experiences. Ann got to go to the pet store with the child that she met.
The Lasallian Volunteers that we are staying with are some of the nicest people I have ever met, and we spend time with them every night in prayer. Tomorrow will be going along to do tracking, which we are all excited for as well. We are still excited to continue see how God will use us to do his work for the rest of the week.
